In theory, yes. This is at least the promise made to the French by successive governments. In practice, the less dense areas always remain the “poor parents” of the FTTH plan. Indeed, for the time being, operators have favored equipping the largest French cities to the detriment of less populated areas and / or more difficult to access. However, the PFTHD adopted in February 2013 reaffirmed the objective of covering the entire French territory by 2022 .
In the meantime, ARCEP has formalized the launch of VDSL2 and its commercial deployment. This technology, which substantially improves the performance of ADSL without however equaling that of fiber, constitutes a last resort while the fiber is deployed throughout France.
Where are we in the deployment of fiber and what are the offers?
ARCEP has set up an “Observatory for High and Very High Speed in France”. As of June 30, 2017, the regulator had just over 6 million very high-speed Internet subscriptions - compared to 2 million as of December 31, 2013 - or 37% of the total number of homes eligible for fiber . In July 2017, more than one active Internet subscription in five was very high speed.
Thus, if you plan to subscribe to a fiber Internet package , you must first of all take stock of the different types of connection with which your telephone line is compatible, which will condition the future speed of your connection: ADSL for broadband , fiber optic or VDSL2 for very high speed. In addition, if your accommodation is in an unbundling zone (partial or total), you may be able to benefit from triple or quadruple play packages.
To allow you to quickly identify the offers to which you have access from SFR, RED by SFR, Orange, Free or even Bouygues Telecom, JeChange provides you with an unbundling and eligibility test for the fiber of your line. You can then discover all the subscriptions available from your home, and compare them to find the contract that best suits your needs, at the best price.
